Boeing has added another 65 jetliner orders in the last week and now has almost 700 for the year. Airbus will update its order total in the next few days with figures for July.
Boeing's 698 gross orders to date is 30 percent higher than the 531 firm orders it had at the same time a year ago. That was Boeing's best year ever. Boeing booked a record 1,044 net orders in 2006.
Several key campaigns still to be decided this year -- British Airways and Emirates among them -- will likely determine who wins the annual order battle.
